General Dream Studio Questions

What is Dream Studio?

Sanriotown's Dream Studio is an innovative showcase for your memoirs and stories that can be securely shared and collaborated on. It is the best place online to put together photos, videos and words. Create Slideshows, a multi-media collage that comes to life with exciting transitions, special effects and animations.

What's a Slideshow?

A Slideshow is a collection of photos, videos, and sounds brought together into a highly stylized frame-based presentation that can be customized with a myriad of creative options and effects. A Slideshow resides in a permanent URL and can be private, only to be accessed by whomever you invite, or public for the whole world to see.

Please refer to our tutorial section to learn about Creating a Slideshow

How do I use my Slideshow?

You can share your Slideshows, publish them to other sites or blogs, or just keep them to yourself. Once you've designed one, the only limit in how you use it is your imagination.

Can anyone see my Slideshows?

That completely depends on you. As the final step in your design, you get an option to choose whether the projects you make are made public or private. The option to do this can be turned on and off anytime.

What are the rules?

As with any community, whether online or not, there are certain rules and guidelines to abide by. We'd like to promote a healthy online community that only grows with creativity and the sharing of great ideas. Please refer to the Community Guidelines for a detailed discussion.

Tags and More

What are tags?

Tags are keywords or labels that you can add to an Slideshow to make it easier for you and your viewers to find it later. You can tag each project with tags like "birthday party". Ideally, a tag should be at least 2 letter or numbers separated with a space or with double quotes to join two or more words together in one tag, like "johnny's birthday party" so that if you are looking for pictures of Johnny at a later date, you can click on that tag and get all Slideshows that have been tagged that way.

Here are some tag suggestions to help you streamline your collections.

Medium Tags
  • photo - images that you take from your camera
  • drawing - images that you draw, or images of drawings you upload
  • painting - just like drawing but with paint, of course.
  • cg - computer generated images, from photo editors and 3D programs
Genre Tags
  • cameraphone - images or videos taken with a cameraphone.
  • video - live action sequences
  • montage - multiple images juxtaposed
  • portrait - an image of a person or group of people.
  • group - include on a portrait of a group of people.
  • landscape - outdoor images, focuses on the environment.
  • still life - image of an inanimate object or group of inanimate objects
  • abstract - an abstract image; non-figurative.
  • propaganda - politically motivated image, typically includes text.
  • comic - sequential art
Subject Tags
  • live music - a photograph of a musician or musicians in performance.
  • animal - an image with an animal as its subject.
  • me - an image of yourself.
Name Tags
  • Judicious use of the name of a person in the photo or project.
    Ex. Ashton, Geoffrey, etc.
Location Tags
  • hong kong
  • vancouver

a 'vacation' tag can group all the images taken away from home.
For example: "hong kong vacation"

This list is just a start and we hereby encourage developing your own novel tagging scheme. Tagging is pretty subjective and requires some careful and strategic planning to make it truly useful and meaningful to its user. We hope that examples above get you a head start in the tagging stratagem.

Public vs. Private

Can I protect my personal projects from prying eyes?

Of course you can. Each Slideshow that you make comes with its own privacy setting. You can make it available to absolutely everyone (including those who are not Sanriotown members), or you can just keep it to yourself.

Can I make a public Slideshow private again?

Yes. The privacy setting you associate with each Slideshow is completely flexible. You can show or hide it anytime you like.

Can anyone leave a comment?

The answer is yes, unless you say you don't want them to. We recommend that any user be able to comment on your photos to make a richer tactile environment.

A page in your profile settings area, which lets you specify default settings for what you'd like most of the time. You can change this for each individual Slideshow if you wish.

More importantly, members of the general public who aren't members of Sanriotown can never comment on your photos.

Embedding, Publishing and Linking to Other Sites

Can I display my Slideshows elsewhere? (Thus making me look like a complete genius)

Of course you can!

The "Embed" section is a line of HTML code you can copy and paste onto any web page, allowing you to display the video on your personal web page, your blog, anywhere that supports flash video!

Because each Slideshow you create is rendered into Flash, many portals will support it. Creating a new Slideshow assigns a URL to it which you can readily embed on your personal web page, your blog or anywhere that supports flash video (Such as Friendster and MySpace).

The details portion of each Slideshow will contain the URL address and a code that you easily copy and paste to an appropriate web application.

In most cases, this is done within a customization or media box in which you are required to provide a code snippet that we readily provide.
